Hydrotherapy or its new term, Aquatic Physiotherapy, is ideal for those with degenerative orthopaedic conditions, joint replacements, stiffness in the spine, deconditioning, chronic pain and core stability weakness. The buoyancy of the water supports the body so that you can exercise with minimal stress on the principle joints. The warmth of the water reduces pain and improves tissue extensibility. It’s amazing how much more you can do in the water than on land!
Aileen can also help with swimming mechanics for triathletes/long distance swimmers who may be experiencing shoulder difficulties.
There are no classes running for rehabilitation clients currently, but 1:1 sessions are possible. It works well to get you set up on an aqua programme, then check in with you and progress the programme every 3-4 weeks. This can be done in whatever pool you intend to work out in, so that it can be tailored to your pool. You will need to make local arrangements to facilitate physio entry. A small amount of equipment may be necessary.
This is €60 for 30 minutes including a laminated handwritten exercise programme specifically for you, and advice regarding complementary land based activities to supplement your water work. Aileen is happy to liase with your on-land physiotherapist regarding treatment so far, functional goals etc.
